If they were only like this all of the time....

I love this photo...took it late yesterday afternoon. We have had an insanely hot Memorial Day weekend and our "outside time" has been very late in the evenings. The kids have watched a lot of movies in the last 2 days..but I turned the TV off and I went back to cleaning the kitchen. When I returned, this is what was going on in the living room. If they could only be this sweet and serene all of the time...heaven...

LESSONS THAT WE HAVE LEARNED

1. Don't sweat the small stuff.
2. Pick your battles!!
3. Don't try to "be fair" and parent all of your children the same way; it will make both you and all of them crazy.
4. Make every day count.
5. Parenting is the hardest job in this world.
6. Farming definitely takes a lot of practice!
7. The pecking order in a chicken house is much like that in a "human" house.
8. Once you are parenting 3 children; you could have 20....
9. Kids "get it" more than you realize....
10. "Things" don't matter.
11. Don't ever let the kids "split." (no matter how cute they are)
12. Take parenting "advice" (wanted or unwanted) from other people and know that it may not likely work for your own particular family.
13. Kids really do like structure.
14. The books are right....
15. Goats are fun.
16. Country eggs are the best.
17. If you don't have both chemistry and compatability in your relationship; you may as well forget trying to parent together.
18. Let the snide remarks that other people make roll off of your back; if you want to start a farm-DO IT.
19. The best birthday present for a 3 year old is a new pony :); not only was he thrilled, he has taken "ownership" of this pony and wants to be a part of caring for him daily.
20. Enjoy your dreams!

Our 15 year old son loves to cook.......some of his favorite dishes will be on here soon!

Not sure that this is my favorite dish..but today we made homemade egg noodles. Here is the recipe:
1 cup of flour
2 eggs
salt to taste (Mom has HBP so we are watching our salt intake:)
Make a pile of flour
Make a small dish in the middle
Crack eggs (we have to wash our eggs first because they are fresh)
Knead until consistency of elastic (and not sticky)
Run through a pasta maker or cut noodles how you want them
